As long as you don't have a tape in the camcorder with important stuff on it, it isn't easy to damage anything.
To start with: most likely the labeled buttons have the same function in service mode as the labeled buttons found on the WL-D71 and WL-D70.
| start/stop | -> | next page |
| rewind | -> | previous address |
| fast fwd | -> | next address |
| play | -> | increase data |
| stop | -> | decrease data |
| pause | -> | store data |
Why do I think this? I've visited Jan van der Meer of the Global Digital Video Club, he had an MV1, an RM-95 remote, and we compared the functions, and they were also very similar.
Now the first thing to find out is which button brings you to service mode. Nothing can go wrong before you reach that, except that there may be a button that triggers the `eject' function. Probably harmless too, but I recommend opening the cassette compartment when you see `eject' on the screen, and close it again the usual way.
When you enter the `service mode' button for the first time, a number or a row of dashes appears on the right-hand side on the screen, in the upper half. Press the same button again and you should see
PG BK MD ADDR DT ST
4 0 RD 0000 ??
with some hex number under DT.
Then you are in service mode, now you need to be a little more careful. You need to verify the functions above, and find the 2 other functions: `read/write' and `previous bank'. Being careful means:
Push any of the `read/write', FF or REW buttons to leave the WRite mode.
If you keep that in mind, nothing can go wrong.
Now that you know which button to use, go to page 6, then select bank 4, write down the number under DT, push FF, and repeat the last steps.
It will take some 15-20 minutes, for me it was worth it!
